The Pudelpointer is a medium-to-large, athletic pointing dog with a harsh, dense coat, a bearded muzzle, and dropped ears. The outline is that of a versatile German gundog, built for field and water.

A wiry German gundog for an active house; coat work, a field voice, and daily hunt or hard walks.

The Pudelpointer was created in Germany by crossing Poodles and English Pointers to make a versatile hunting dog. The UKC classes it as a Gun Dog.

Temperament

These pointers are typically loyal to their hunter, reserved with strangers, and serious about work. They need field or water work, not just a backyard.

Training

Be consistent and start bird and water work early. They think in the field.

Brush the harsh coat weekly. Dry the ears after swimming.

Health

Pudelpointers may develop hip dysplasia and ear infections. Ask breeders about hip scores.
