The Slovakian Wire-Haired Pointing Dog is a medium-to-large, athletic gundog with a harsh broken coat, a bearded muzzle, and dropped ears. The color is usually gray-roan.

A wiry Slovak gundog for an active house; coat work, a field voice, and daily hunt or hard walks.

The Slovakian Wire-Haired Pointing Dog, or Slovensky Hrubosrsty Stavac, is a versatile Slovak gundog used to point and retrieve on land and in water. The UKC classes it as a Gun Dog.

Coat: Harsh, close-lying, and weather-resistant, about 1½ inches long, with a beard

Temperament

These pointers are typically loyal to their hunter, reserved with strangers, and serious about work. They need field or water work, not just a backyard.

Brush the harsh coat weekly and dry the ears after swimming.

The breed is generally sturdy. Hip dysplasia and ear infections can occur, as in other pointing breeds.
